
Memorial visitation for Howard E. Schersten, 89, of Palatine for 56 years, will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 41 S. Rohlwing Road, Palatine, Illinois, 60067, with the Reverend Craig Wagner officiating.
Howard was born March 25, 1922 in Rock Island, IL., and passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Lutheran Home, Arlington Heights.
Howard served in the Navy as a Lt. JG in WWII, and was in the battle of Okinawa. He was among the first service men to go to Japan at the end of the war. He was an architect, primarily designing hospitals and schools most of his career. He loved to travel and had visited all 50 states and every continent, except Antarctica. He loved music and belonged to a church choir since he was able to sing.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Helen Schersten (nee Falkenroth); children, Martha (Jeff) Johnston and Paul (Paula) Schersten.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary (nee Wilson) Schersten; and his brother, Clair Schersten.
