A Memorial Visitation for Girard M. Fontaine Jr., of Lake Zurich, will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich. Words of remembrance will be said at 8:00p.m. The Interment will be private.
Girard Maurice Fontaine Jr., lovingly known as “Jerry” to most and “Jer-bear” to his youngest daughter and her boyfriend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 10, 2026, at the age of 79 at Avantara Lake Zurich. Born on October 6, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Girard and Dolores Fontaine.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy and dedicated more than 50 years of hard work and loyalty to F&S Engraving. He was a man who appreciated life’s simple pleasures and lived fully in the moments that brought him joy.
He loved traveling to Jamaica — or anywhere warm — golfing, playing penny slots at the casino, watching Bears football, camping, demolition derbies, sitting on the porch with a cold beer, lighting fireworks, grilling for family and friends, and listening to music just a little too loud. He was known for his sense of humor and the phrase his children heard often growing up: “It will put hair on your chest.”
Above all else, Jerry loved his family. He loved all three of his daughters and was proud of each of them, showing it in his own personal way. He is survived by his three daughters, Marianne (Tim) Peistrup, Meghan Romano, and Elizabeth Fontaine (boyfriend Ryan); his beloved grandchildren, Leah Meltzer and Kacey (Carli) Repka; his brothers, Robert (GJ) Fontaine and Nicholas (Peggy) Fontaine; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Girard and Dolores Fontaine; his sister, Darlene; his brother, Edward; and his three wives, Judy, Kathleen, and Carol.
Jerry will be remembered for his sometimes off-color humor, stubbornness, loyalty, love of a good time, and the many memories he created with those lucky enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to the American Lung Association.
