A Memorial Visitation and Celebration of Life for Alice Just, 88, of Palatine, Illinois, will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. Plum Grove Road, Palatine. The Memorial Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
Alice went to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 30, 2026, passing away peacefully in Trevor, Wisconsin.
Born on April 16, 1938, in Biele, Germany, to Oskar and Emilie (nee Milke) Zuelke, Alice immigrated to America and found the love of her life, Arthur, at a dance hall in Chicago. They had both immigrated from Germany on the same boat, just one trip apart. When the Lord finally did introduce them, it was near love at first sight. With Art by her side, she went on to live a beautiful life defined by her devotion to her family, her generous spirit, and her deep love for the Lord.
Alice was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Just. Together, they built a family rooted in love, faith, and support. She was a woman of joy and great kindness who was known as a wonderful friend with a quick smile and a laugh. She loved her flowers, gardening and reading scripture. Alice found joy in lifting others up, always offering encouragement for their daily lives and kindling their walk with God. She had a true servant’s heart, which shone brightly in her daily life and her career. For many years, Alice served her community through her work on the child nutrition staff at Palatine High School and Kirk School, feeding countless students. She was an exceptional cook and an unparalleled baker. Her family and friends will forever cherish the love she baked into every dish, especially her famous, much-loved German strudel (with and without walnuts!). Her Christian faith was the absolute cornerstone of her life. Alice and her family were active and dedicated members of Christ Lutheran Church for many years, and in more recent years, she found a wonderful church family at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, where she continued to worship, and grow, especially in their 50’s Plus Fellowship Group on Fridays.
Alice’s legacy of love lives on in the family she cherished so deeply. She is survived by her children: Pete (Melinda) Just, Connie (John) Engberg, and Glen (Heather) Just; her beloved grandchildren: Nathan, Rachel, and Andrew Just, Justin (Sarah), Joshua (Megan), and Joel Engberg, Tobin, Caroline, Camden, and Maren Just, Baden, Asher, and Cole Myers; her fond siblings: Siegfried (Wine) Zuelke and Erna (Arno) Drews; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Arthur; her parents, Oskar and Emilie Zuelke; and daughter in-law, Nancy Just.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Alice’s name as a Memorial or gift to Moody Bible Institute via drm@moody.edu, honoring her love of the radio programs, ministries, and lifelong passion for sharing and encouraging faith in others.
