Visitation for Vivian Torres (née Gomez), 71, of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 33 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich, Illinois. Interment will be private.
Vivian passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 24, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, to Henry and Nellie Gomez, Vivian was the third of four sisters and was raised in a close-knit family that shaped her lifelong devotion to family and love.
Vivian dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the Chicago Public Schools as both a teacher and administrator. She believed deeply in education and caring for others, touching countless lives throughout her career.
Vivian was intelligent, perceptive, and a source of comfort, wisdom, and unwavering support to those who loved her. Though reserved by nature, she loved fiercely and always stood by her family and friends.
Nothing brought Vivian greater joy than time spent with loved ones, especially during the holidays. Christmas was her favorite season, and she cherished cooking with family, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, catching sunsets, and being surrounded by those she loved.
Vivian was the beloved wife of 50 years to Neftali Torres, Jr.; cherished mother of Natalie Torres, Christopher Torres (Megan Marren), and Matthew Torres (Steven Grimes); and loving grandmother of Mackenzie Rainford, Abigail Rainford, Penelope Olszewski, and Amelia Olszewski. She is also survived by her loving sisters Regina Poblocki (John), Monica Gomez, and Laura Guido (Alfonso), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She also leaves behind many dear friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives were better for knowing her.
Vivian will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
