Dr. Richard Clifford Treanor passed away at the Pepper Family Hospice Home in Barrington, IL on Oct. 25, 2011 at 10:30 PM with his wife of 58 years and his seven children by his side. Dick was born in Chicago, on Flag Day, June 14, 1926. Each year, on that day, we fly Old Glory to honor him as well as our country. He attended St. Edwards Grade School and Schurz High School. Dick was in the Army during World War II. Utilizing the GI Bill, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a physician by attending the University or Illinois Medical School, interning at Cook County Hospital in its heyday. There he met his lifelong partner of 58 tears, June, a student nurse. Dick completed his residency at Hines Veterans Hospital and began his own practice in internal medicine in 1956. Over the next 40+ years, he devoted himself to his wife, seven children, family, friends, patients and colleagues. Dick kept them close to his heart through laughter, love and compassion. His philosophy of medicine truly resembled the old fashioned country doctor and can be summed up in his own words as printed in an article about him in “Reflections” a University of Illinois bulletin for successful graduates. “My association with my patients over the years has been enormously gratifying. They became like a part of my family. So much of medicine is not just listening to symptoms, but looking at the whole person. Psychological problems can make people sick. Just by looking at them I could usually tell when something was bothering them, and talking about it would often relieve physical symptoms.” His family will attest to his equally gratifying example as a loving husband, a doting and proud father and remarkable and exceptional role model. He was truly a renaissance man, a man of goodness, kindness, and humor. Dick will be truly missed. He was the beloved husband of Helen June (nee Hudon); father of Kathleen M., Theresa J., Peggy E., Michael R., John C., Sharon M., Thomas J., and the late Paul J.; grandfather of 18; great-grandfather of three; son of the late Bernard and the late Margaret; brother of Francis J., the late Bernard and the late Thomas. Visitation is 4:00 to 9:00pm, Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Prayers will be said at 12:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home going to St. Francis de Sales Church, 33 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich for Mass at 1:30 PM. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. In lieu of flowers memorials will be appreciated to Smile Train or The Hospice Foundation of Northeastern Illinois, for the Pepper Family Hospice Home, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010.
