Virginia Kunkel

Visitation for Virginia Kunkel, 95, of Palatine, will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass, 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Dr. Palatine. An Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery, Palatine.

She was born on January 2, 1924 in Chicago, IL and passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

Virg was an avid league golfer and bowler. She participated for years in the Tri-County Senior Olympics taking home multiple medals. In her youth she made many friendships through the Avondale Athletic Association (AAA) while playing softball, baseball and swimming. These friendships and sports lasted lifelong and through the years progressed from sports to card playing to monthly social gatherings. Even though she worked outside the home until retirement from Duo-Fast at age 62, Virg always found ways to be generous with her time, talents and treasures as her family will remember. Virg spent the last year of her life receiving excellent care by the loving and attentive staff at the Lutheran Home.

Virginia is survived by her children; Carol (Richard) Rogowski, Linda (Gerald) Glogovsky and Steven (Eileen) Kunkel, grandchildren; Wendy (Wesley) Nicholas, Gary (Kim) Rogowski, Kathryn (James) Rollins, Tony (Rachel) Glogovsky, Julie (Matthew) Gore and Alexandra Kunkel, great grandchildren Megan, Aubrey, Leah, Sarah, Stella, Annie, Gavin, Hope and Brynn.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years Hillard “Steve” and her sister Dorothy.
