Virginia K. Herdegen

Visitation for Virginia K. Herdegen (nee Mommsen), 94, of Palatine since 1964, will be held, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

Virginia was born June 28, 1927, in Chicago, and passed away December 20, 2021, in Arlington Heights.

Virginia was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Herdegen; loving mother of Leslie Swedo, Denise (Sam) Cook and Kevin (Cecilia) Herdegen; loving grandmother of Lisa (Ed) Fermanis, Jason (Lisa) Swedo, the late Gregory Swedo, Court Cook, Whitney Cook and Claire Belle Herdegen; loving great-grandmother of Ally and Michael Fermanis and Mia, Sienna, and Robert Swedo; dear daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret (nee Horst) Mommsen; fond sister of the late Hope Korgie, Pat Thorne and Janet Miller.

During Mom’s younger years she attended Jones Business School and worked at Lloyd Larsen in Accounting. Virginia worked with Robert on computers in the machine tool industry. She took classes at Harper College in Basic, Cobol and Machine Language. She assisted her husband at the various business shows at McCormick Place. Virginia had many hobbies over the years. She sketched pictures of family members, made beautiful afghans, and lovely needlepoint scenes. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
