Thomas Michael Schutter, 26, of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, passed away on September 11, 2026.
Tom was born on August 24, 2000, in Barrington, Illinois, to Jeanne and Mike Schutter. He grew up in Hawthorn Woods and attended Lake Zurich High School, where he played on the tennis team for four years. He went on to the University of Iowa, graduating in 2025 with a degree in English and a minor in Business. Tom worked as a business and supply chain analyst, including internships with Steel Partners.
Tom was a kind soul who was always there for his friends and family, the kind of person people knew they could count on. He had a passion for creativity — writing, reading, and drawing — along with a quick wit and a strong sense of doing what was right. He loved building things with his hands, fly fishing, and hiking the trails around Estes Park. He was happiest helping out wherever possible, including on the family farm in Iowa and gathering with friends for any excuse to celebrate. At home, he found simple joy in the company of his collie, Hunter, and his parrot, Caicos.
Tom is survived by his parents, Jeanne and Michael Schutter; his grandparents, John and Kathy Schutter and Bob and Mary Lou Tracy, and Genette Tracy; his aunts and uncles, Laura Schutter and her husband, Andrew Emig, Robin and Peter Pollack, Robert Tracy, Jim Tracy, and Patrick Tracy; and his cousins, Lilly and Samantha Pollack, Jayden and Maddie Tracy, and Dylan Emig.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 20, at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home in Lake Zurich, Illinois from 2:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. Monday, September 21, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Zurich, followed by burial in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
Tom will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, smile, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. He will be deeply missed.
