Shirley was born December 2, 1924, in Chicago, and passed away July 29, 2025, in Barrington.
Shirley and Mickey were avid travelers, enjoying road trips around the country to enjoy the sites it had to offer, and visit friends and family whenever possible. She often wrote poetry to share her thoughts and her faith. She loved to garden and was an avid collector of everything unique and quirky. Over the years she shared her passion for music through her flute-playing in the Youth for Christ band and singing in church choirs. Shirley encouraged so many through 100 + years by writing personal notes and cards. In her most recent years, she was a member of North Suburban Church (Deerfield) and had attended Northwest Community Church (Mundelein).
Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd aka Mickey E. Rugen; loving mother of Jeanette (John) Stanonik and Lloyd aka Lee (Linda) Rugen II; loving grandmother of Jenelle Pierce (Blake), Jenene Jorian, (Brandon), Jenna Stanonik (Chris Urry), Lucas Rugen (Nicole), Loren Rugen (Rachel), and Laramie Rugen (Sarah); great-grandmother to: Janessa Greifenkamp, Marissa Pierce, Olivia Jorian, Elias Rugen, Everett Rugen, Lincoln Rugen, Rohan Rugen, and Quincy Rugen; dear daughter of the late William and Erma (nee: Rousseau) Terrace; fond sister of Pat Folk (Tony).
