A Visitation for Sandra Faber, 89 of Lake Zurich IL, will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich, IL. The Interment will be private.
Sandra, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on July 20, 2025, after a short illness.
Sandra and her twin sister Madra were born April 14, 1936, at home in Mendota, IL. Sandra was a 1954 graduate from Mendota High School and a 1958 graduate from Illinois State University, with a bachelor’s degree in home economics. Her first employment after college was at Midlothian High School as head of the home economics department. She then taught in North Chicago for eight years, again as the head of home economics.
She married James Faber, also from Mendota, in 1960. Sandra and Jim moved to Park City, IL in 1968 and gave birth to their only child, Gary Faber the same year. Sandra did not work full-time outside the home following Gary’s birth but did seamstress work (specializing in ultra suede) and taught as a substitute for many years.
The family moved to Mount Morris, IL in 1974 where she spent most of her life. Sandra enjoyed many local activities including sewing, camping, cooking, church activities, the Red Hat Club as well as spending time with family and her many friends in town. She was especially fond of dogs, speaking often of her long-time pets, Casper and Snoop.
She survived cancer in her 60s and subsequently volunteered at Saint Anthony's Cancer Center for eight years. In her last years of life she lived at Cedar Lake Assisted Living and Memory Care in Lake Zurich, IL where she was a beloved part of the community, often being a helper for social activities. Sandra was elated to be so close to her son, daughter-in-law, and three granddaughters in these later years.
Sandra is survived by her twin sister, Madra Fisher; her son, Gary (Kathy) Faber; granddaughters, Brenna, Kylie, and Lauren Faber; nephew, Steven (Laura) Fischer; and niece, Julie (Dan) May. She was predeceased by her husband, James Faber; parents, Charles and Ramona Montagnoli, and brother, Chuck Montagnoli.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to your local animal shelter.
