Rosemarie Smedley

Visitation for Rosemarie Smedley, 97, formerly a longtime resident of Palatine, will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.  Family and Friends will meet for visitation on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Our Redeemer’s United Methodist Church, 1600 W. Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.  The Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.

Rosemarie was born on May 18, 1925 to James and Mattie Shorter.  She passed away at home on July 25, 2022.

Rosemarie, a phenomenal lady, a pillar throughout the community, was well known and had many many friends.  She was a volunteer at Brookside in Hoffman Estates and active at Fremd High School.  Additionally, she had a love for Christmas and enjoyed decorating her house for the holiday. She was well known for having the largest Christmas tree in the neighborhood.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Rosemarie will be missed.

Rosemarie was the beloved wife of the late, William E. Smedley.  She is survived by her children, Betty (Fred) Miller, David (Peggy) Smedley, Rick Smedley, Johnny Smedley, Jim (Peggy) Smedley, and Bob (Angel) Smedley; grandchildren, Cindy, Rick, Ron, Christina, David, Aaron, Jeanne, Jack, Gabby, Clay, Abbey, Walter, David, and Steven; great-grandchildren, Grace, Bridget, Sean, Jessica, Wyatt, Ashton, Rebecca and Hunter.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Richard and William Smedley.
