Visitation for Ronald George Potoczny Sr., 85, will be on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N Northwest Hwy, Palatine, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. The Interment will be private at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights, IL.
Ron was born on July 9, 1940, and went to Heaven on January 23, 2026, in Isle, Minnesota.
Ron was born in Chicago to Josephine Potoczny. Josephine married Steven Stefaniak and they had 3 more children, Esther, Diane (Tinker), and Kenny, whom Ron adored.
As a teenager Ron was led to the Lord by Art Rorheim. Ron joyfully volunteered as an Awana Leader and Sunday School Teacher. Ron also served in various roles (cabin leader, fishing director, and cook) at Camp Awana for several decades.
Ron was a fisherman who fished as much and often as he could. Everyone knew exactly where to find him at Camp: sitting on the pier teaching kids to fish. It was a treasured memory for countless young people, especially his children and grandchildren.
In 1961, Ron married Linda Field. They had 4 children: Ron Jr., John, Don, and Katherine. After she left them all in 1973, Ron made sure that the children stayed together and he cared for them. (Ron remarried Linda in 2000.)
In 1975, Ron married Jane Koelbl. Ron and Jane had 4 more children, Tim, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Dan, who brought new life and happiness to his home. Ron worked hard to provide for the whole family and made sure they knew God’s Word.
Ron was self-employed delivering flowers for most of his life. He spent 20 years working as a proud Walmart Associate. He especially enjoyed his friendship with Artis there.
Ron spent his last months with his children and grandchildren surrounded by love and tender care. Ron kept his charm, humor, and dignity until his last day. His passing was poetically peaceful.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine; stepfather, Steven; baby daughter, Elizabeth; son, Ron Jr. and Jane.
Ron is survived by: His wife, Linda Field; Sons, John Potoczny, Colonel Donald Potoczny, Timothy Potoczny, Benjamin Potoczny, Daniel Potoczny; Daughter, Katherine Stillman; Grandchildren, Sarah, Tabitha, Boo, Jeremiah, Alexander, James, Camille, Cameron, Elizabeth, Joseph, Cheyenne, Austin, and Bo; 7 great-grandchildren; Son-in-law, Ron Stillman; Daughters-in-law, Cindy, Didem, Kat, Cassidy, and Anna; Sisters, Esther Mason, Tinker Boehm; and Brother, Kenny.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Rural Music Ministries 501c3, would be greatly appreciated.
