Robert P. Maag

Visitation for Robert Patrick “Bob” Maag, 81, of Palatine since 1975, will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine, Illinois, 60067. The Visitation will continue Monday, September 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 S. Roselle Road, Palatine, Illinois, 60067. The Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove.

Robert “Bob” Maag was born in San Francisco on April 21, 1945. He was welcomed by his parents, Robert and Mary Maag, and later joined by his three siblings: John, Tom, and Jimmy.

Bob was also the beloved husband of Mildred Maag (nee Roumas); loving father of Kathleen (Marc) Paquette, late Bobby Maag, and Nicole (James) O’Keefe; loving grandfather of Janine (Samantha) Wordette, John Paquette, Hannah O’Keefe, Mary O’Keefe, and Sarah O’Keefe.

Growing up on the farm in South Dakota, Bob learned to be frugal, as well as how to fix almost anything (even if that meant using a roll of duct tape). When Bob wasn’t playing basketball or joking around with his brothers, he was working with his father. Here he learned the benefits of being a hard worker and the impact of a positive, can-do attitude.

Bob and Millie started their lives together after meeting in the International Club at Wright Junior College in Chicago. Early dates usually ended with late night walks, chocolate malts, and a cookie. They committed to each other in marriage on September 2, 1967. They were later “entrusted with two baby girls that have grown into beautiful, Christian women”, (in Bob’s words). Bob instilled in them that same positive mindset that radiated from him his whole life. The highlight of Bob’s day was coming home to his beautiful family. Days were filled with playful laughter.

Bob dedicated 38 years of his career at Jewel Osco, starting by stocking shelves and ending his career as the Vice President of Advertising.

After retiring, he spent many years working as a Palatine High School hall monitor where he especially enjoyed seeing two of his grandchildren. His warm smile welcomed every student and staff member that came through the doors. Throughout his life he shared his love of basketball with everyone he knew by coaching one of his daughters, and four of his grandkids and their friends. His passions in life were traveling with family to Disney, playing golf, swimming with the grandkids, and playing cards with friends..

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Dementia Society of America or St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church of Palatine.
