After struggling against various ailments, Rich passed peacefully while surrounded by family.

Rich grew up in Chicago having attended Lane Tech High School.  He went to Purdue University, was a brother of Phi Sigma Kappa and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. After graduation, he returned to campus every year, even when sick, to take in a football game and then he would return to see the Purdue Christmas show.

After graduation, Rich & Kandy married in May of 1971.  They began their married life in Chicago before making their way to the suburbs where Rich found a passion in coaching softball.  He started the LZ Lightning travel softball program where he coached many players and fostered lifelong friendships.  Rich also coached at the high school level for both Lake Zurich and Schaumburg.  The pinnacle of his coaching career came in 2003 when his team at Lake Zurich went downstate and he was named Coach of the Year.

Rich relished time spent with the grandkids. He could always be found on the sidelines or in the stands of the grandkids’ various sporting events.  On school mornings, he championed his role of Breakfast Buddy for Jake & Matt.  During the summer months, Rich loved his time at the lake especially captaining his boat.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of almost 50 years Kandy (Nee (Kiewert) Keller; brother Ron Keller (Pat); children Chris Keller (Becky) and Brittany Moll (Josh); grandchildren Josh and Vanessa Keller and Jake, Matt, Luke and Allison Moll.  He’s also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Adolph and Jean (nee Farley) Keller.

Donations are welcomed, in Richard’s memory, to the American Cancer Society.
