Ralph Phillip Zambitio, 86, of Palatine, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Ralph was born on September 24, 1939, in Chicago to the late Ralph and Anna (nee Barrata) Zambito and lovingly raised by “Mom”, Angelina and Nickolas Mekoola. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Zambito. Ralph was the beloved husband of 60 years of Betty L. Zambito (nee Balmes); loving father of Lori (Sean) Davis; loving grandfather of Shannon (Matt Visich) Davis and Courtney (Ted) Sommers.

Friends and family remember him for his sense of humor, his strength, and work ethic. Ralph spent much of his life as an avid golfer, devoted Bears fan, and financial wizard. He enjoyed traveling, seeing most of the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Ralph grew up in Chicago and excelled at sports, particularly baseball as a teen, tennis, and golf.

Ralph attended Roosevelt Military Academy in 1956. He proudly served as a specialist in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. He was stationed in Japan with the Army Security Agency (ASA) and earned distinction as a marksman. During his service in Japan, Ralph was awarded the runner up trophy for the US Army Doubles Tournament in 1961.

In 1964, Ralph married his loving wife, Betty. He attended DePaul University, graduating in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. He went on to enjoy a successful career in sales that spanned 40 years, including a four-year corporate assignment in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ralph was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren will remember him fondly for his wit, advice, and life lessons.

The family would like to thank Northwest Community Hospital and the VA for their support, care, and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
