Philip A. McGlauchlin

November 12, 1957 — October 27, 2024

Lake Zurich

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of beloved husband and father, Philip Alan McGlauchlin, 66, on October 27, 2024. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 10:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Parish, 33 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich. The Inurnment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.

Philip was born on November 12, 1957, the third child of four to Frank and Willa McGlauchlin in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and Urbandale, Iowa playing football and baseball, enjoying the outdoors with the Boy Scouts and usually had his head in some kind of book.

By the time Phil was in fifth grade, the McGlauchlins landed in Deerfield, Illinois where he met the love of his life, Mary Kay Roberts, their senior year of high school. They married in 1982 and settled in Lake Zurich to grow their family.

Phil obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Computer Science in 1984 and a Masters in Information Systems in 1991 from Northern Illinois University and tirelessly built a successful career. He notably spent the past 20 years building and selling cloud services with Oracle and impressing everyone he worked with.

Most of all, Phil loved to spend time with his family whether it was coaching any of his kids’ sports teams, endlessly renovating each house he lived in, tending to his peaceful koi pond, taking the kids camping every summer, or hiking with his dogs every morning at various Lake County Forest Preserves and then stopping by the Koffee Kup for breakfast. His life was full of “all the good things” as he would tell us, and wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Phil is the beloved husband of Mary Kay McGlauchlin (nee Roberts); loving father of Katie, Mimi, Mikey (Jaimee Thonn) and Eddie (Dani Bennett); dear son of the late Frank and Willa McGlauchlin (nee Stanberg); dear son-in-law of the late Bill and late Kay Roberts (nee Lydon); brother of Gary (Yin Ho), Laura McGlauchlin-Duis (Dennis Duis), Todd (Gaylyn); brother-in-law of Tom Roberts (Rita), the late Julie Ferren (late Andy); uncle of John Ferren (Abby, Campbell), Tom Ferren, Annie Ferren (Todd Moen), Keke Mullen (Ezra), Danny Roberts, Ellyn Smith (Matthew: Charlotte), Julia McGlauchlin (Nick Parenica), Sarah Jacobs (Prince: Ian, Zachary, Luther), Emmanuel Duis (Erica McMillan: Manny), Joel Duis.

It would behoove us to mention some of the wonderful fur babies Phil took care of in his lifetime: Maggie, Molly, Carrianne, Ellie, Rosie, Tiger, Cheesepuff, Toby, Mackie, Clark, Addison, & Maizy. We know those who passed greeted him at Heaven’s gates with various barks, slobbers, and meows, and that the others miss him terribly.

Special thanks to Dave Degrassi, Dr. Troy and their team at Comprehensive Urology; Dr. Park, Dr. Chokshi and the exceptional staff at Good Shepherd Hospital; Nurse Lin and the staff at Alta Rehab in Wauconda and Avantara in Long Grove for all their kind and compassionate care during our multiple stays.

Special thanks to Fr. Ryan and our St. Francis de Sales community for all their prayers and support during this journey. We have felt and continue to feel your love.

In lieu of flowers, it is Phil’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Lake County Forest Preserves.
