Philip Lawrence Allen entered into eternal rest on April 23, 2023. He was born in Chicago, IL on March 6, 1942, to Philip and Marie (McLellan) Allen. Phil grew up in Niles, IL and attended Notre Dame High School. He married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara Eckel, in 1963. Phil attended Northwestern University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  Over the course of his professional career, Phil was the CEO of several companies.  Phil and Barb were happily married for over 56 years until her passing in 2019. Phil was a beloved father to three children and a beloved grandfather to three grandchildren.

Faith was extremely important to Phil.  Phil was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church for over 45 years.  He had the privilege of serving on various committees as well as serving as an Elder and most recently, as a Deacon.  Phil treasured the opportunities being a Deacon afforded him as he was passionate about caring for others during their time of need.  He actively supported the ministries of Christopher House and God’s Energizing Mission (G.E.M.).

Phil had a gift for telling stories, and he loved to read.  Phil performed with the Harper College Festival Chorus for over 25 years.  He enjoyed attending Broadway in Chicago, the Lyric Opera, and the Chicago Symphony.  Phil was an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed cheering on Northwestern, Notre Dame, the Cubs, and the Bears. Phil loved animals, especially dogs.  He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.  He loved traveling the world for both business and pleasure. He carried a special appreciation for the United Kingdom, Bavaria, and Switzerland. He loved taking fishing trips to Canada and taking cruises with family and friends.

Phil enjoyed spending time at the family lake house in Wisconsin on Lake Sinnissippi for over 50 years. He was passionate about preserving the health of the lake and its wildlife, and he was a long-standing member of the Lake Sinnissippi Association. Phil was honored to serve his community in Wisconsin having been elected a Dodge County Commissioner for several terms.

Phil was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all, especially his children, Deborah (John) Fogal, Christopher Allen, and Julie (Stephen) Harrell; his grandchildren, Connor, Braeden, and Finley Harrell; his sisters, Nancy (Clark) Farrell and Patricia Allen; his nieces and nephews. Phil is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents, Philip and Marie Allen; his brothers, James Allen and Terrence Allen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Phil’s name, to the Children’s Ministry at Southminster Presbyterian Church.
