Norma C. Nikolai

Visitation for Norma C. Nikolai, 85, a resident of Palatine since 1959, will be held from 1:00p.m. until 4:00p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 3, 2021, also at the funeral home. The Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Palatine.

Norma was born on January 22, 1936, in Springfield, IL the daughter of the late Arthur and Lochie (nee Bedford) Cloyd and grew up on the farm in Sangamon County, IL in the community of Loami. Following high school she attended and graduated from Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL. Norma eventually moved to the newly developing area of Carpentersville, IL and began teaching in School District 300. Norma went on to get her Master’s Degree in Education from Concordia University. Norma was active in the Palatine community and was a member of the Palatine League of Women Voters and she served as President of the Palatine Library Board. Norma served during the time when the board was considering building a new library and eventually helped to select the site and the architect that designed the current library. Some hobbies of Norma included sewing and quilting, she and her husband also had a little farm in Magnolia, IL that they enjoyed having.

She was the beloved wife of the late Clarence P.; loving mother of Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” (Bernard) Walter, Kevin (Mariette) Nikolai and Jane (Tom) Prochnow; grandmother of B.J., Rob and Katie Walter, Wyatt and Alex Nikolai, Natalie (Chris) Stevens, Tom (Lauren) Prochnow, Jr. and Lauren Prochnow; great grandmother of Alden and Maya; dear sister of Arlene Carlson and Neale A. (Shirley) Cloyd; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Norma would be appreciated for the Friends of the Palatine Library, 700 North Court, Palatine, IL 60067 or to the Palatine Historical Society, 224 E. Palatine Road, Palatine, IL 60067.
