Michael A. Szwiec

Funeral Services for Michael (Mike) A. Szwiec, 79, of Palatine, will be private.

Mike was born on June 9, 1947, to Joseph and Ellen Szwiec. He passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in Arlington Heights.

After graduating from Arlington Heights High School, Mike honorably served in the US Air Force where he discovered his aptitude for skilled labor. Upon discharge, Mike joined the Plumbers Union local 130 and quickly rose to become an Estimator - a position he held until his retirement in 2002. Mike was proud to have played a role in estimating iconic buildings including the Sears Headquarters Campus in Hoffman Estates. When not working, Mike enjoyed horse racing, exploring UFO conspiracy theories and guessing the prices on shows like American Pickers or The Price is Right. His love of the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks was evident in his daily wardrobe. He lived in Palatine for his adult life.

Mike was the beloved husband to Betty Szwiec of 36 years. He is also survived by his brother Joe (Lauren) and Betty’s children David (Carol) McMeekin, Tricia (the late Clint) Lombardo and Brian (Sandra) McMeekin as well as grandchildren David Jr., Chelsea, Shana, Ethan and Brianna.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
