A Service is not planned for Michael J Lightfoot, 74, at this time.
Michael died from prostate cancer on August 15, 2025. He was born in Chicago, IL, on February 26, 1951; growing up on the South side of Chicago by Midway Airport.
Michael earned his undergraduate degree from Lewis University and his Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University College of Law. Michael spent his first years out of law school as an Assistant State Attorney for DuPage County. He then moved into the corporate world working for Allstate, representing senior information system executives and Motorola Solutions for Motorola’s R&D organization representing R&D with business units worldwide in technology acquisitions and negotiations. Michael then continued to pursue his love of Intellectual Property law by focusing on his own firm assisting start up organizations. He loved to help his clients to realize their dream of owning their own business and protecting their intellectual property. Lastly, Michael had a passion for people and helping those who had been wronged. Michael always had what he called his “Jesus” clients - those who had been wronged and did not have the means for legal representation.
Michael was a master storyteller. He loved to share stories not only to help illustrate a point, just to relate to someone/situation or to have a good laugh. Fun facts about Michael; he was a lifelong Cubs fan, an Andy Frane usher, an avid learner of new technology (who would tell anyone who would listen how AI is going to change the world) and loved his cigars. He was quick to assist those in need and had a strong faith.
Michael is survived by Kymme, his wife of 25 years; his daughters, Erica, Haley and Grace; his sister, Laura Coomer; and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall James and Beverly Ann Lightfoot.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
