Michael J. Ryan

April 2, 1931 — December 5, 2021

Visitation for Michael J. Ryan, of Hawthorn Woods, will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 9:30am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Francis de Sales Church, 33 S. Buesching Rd, Lake Zurich. The interment will be held privately, at a later date.

Mike passed away after a long struggle with Dementia.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Catherine Ryan (nee Hoffmann); his son, Mike Ryan Jr., daughters, Mary Beth Ryan and Patty (Chris) Rudolph; grandchildren, Joe, Tom and Katie Rudolph, his sister, Sheila (Ryan) Irmiter, and brother, Terry Ryan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Irene (nee Zimmerman) Ryan, and brother, James Ryan.

Mike was born in Chicago, IL and had fond memories of growing up in East Hyde Park. He grew up in St Thomas the Apostle parish where he enjoyed sports, fishing and swimming in Lake Michigan and being surrounded by family and friends.

His first marriage sadly ended when his spouse, Helene died too young of cancer. However, this marriage gave him his only son Mike Jr. who carries on his charm and good looks. He then met and married Mary Catherine Hoffmann with whom he shared a loving 52 yearlong marriage that gave them two beautiful daughters, Mary Beth and Patty.

Mike and Mary Catherine settled in Hawthorn Woods, IL where Mike would use his military training in electrical engineering to build his own success business.

Mike was a good faithful man. He was known for his fun sense of humor, his devotion to his family and his loyalty to those he loved. He passed on his love of the outdoors, good dogs and beautiful gardens to his family. He loved his hunting trips, family vacations in the North Woods and spending time with those he loved.

We are most grateful for his kindness, his sense of fun and his grateful heart. At the end of his life, when words failed him, his inherent goodness spoke for him and was felt by all those around him.
