Mary Clare Sapochak, 88, a resident of Lake Zurich and Deer Park, IL since 1976 passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2026. She was born on September 28, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Charles and Louise Rothdeutsch.
Mary was a stay-at-home mom raising her six children in Avon, OH. She enjoyed hanging out with the neighbors and bowling in a bowling league. After moving to Lake Zurich, she started a career at Horning Wire and eventually became an office manager working there until her retirement. She spent many years as a religious education teacher to second graders at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she enjoyed helping her students prepare for the sacrament of first communion.
Mary had a strong passion for playing slots. She loved going to Las Vegas, Biloxi, and the casino boats where she notoriously would come home with a big smile from all her winnings. Her favorite pastime was working on all kinds of puzzles, especially crossword puzzles.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Ronald J. Sapochak, and her brother Robert Rothdeutsch. She is survived by her daughters Judith A. (George) Tuider, Linda S. Sapochak (George Maracas), Donna L. (Glenn) Kowalski, and Lisa B. (Everett) Lee and sons Ronald P. Sapochak and David J. (Rene) Sapochak; cherished grandmother of Sara Tuider, Alex (Breanna) Tuider, Amanda (Matt) Biancalana, Rebecca (Riley) Caldwell, Andrew Sapochak, Michaela (Zachary) Lawson, Maia, Ava and Ethan Lee, Nicolas and Alex Maracas and great grandmother of Theodore Tuider. Also survived by her sisters Rita Darr, Lois Novak, Wilma Heirty and brothers Charles (Louise) Rothdeutsch and Timothy (Cynthia) Rothdeutsch and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mary will be from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich. Prayers will be said at 9:30 AM on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the funeral home and process to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 33 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich, for the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. The Interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, Libertyville.
