Lenore E. Ferber

A Celebration of Life for Lenore (Lee) Ferber, 91, will be held, Friday October 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 41 S. Rohlwing Road,  Palatine.

Lenore (Lee) Ferber, was born on July 31, 1929 in Chicago to Charles and Erna Robin. She passed away July 3, 2021 in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Lee grew up in an apartment on the NW side of Chicago.  She was the middle child between Esther the elder and Charles (Chuck), the younger.  Lee attended grammar school at Mary Gage Peterson and attended Von Steuben High School.  When she was 16, her dad Charles taught her how to drive. In her youth, she begrudgingly took piano lessons, but eventually opted for tap dancing in which she excelled.  She was very good at math. Lee and Esther shared a bedroom in the family Chicago apartment they resided in, often playing paper dolls.  Cleaning her room meant shoving clothes under the bed.  Esther and Lee loved their little brother Chuck, but found him irritating when he was young as he wanted to play with them all the time.  Lee was very fond of ‘field trips’ with her Uncle Harvey to the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum, the Planetarium and the Aquarium. Lee was a member of Job’s Daughters whose mission was to create confident young women and teach them how to use their voice.  Lee certainly learned how to use her voice to the point she eventually almost lost it, literally. As a young girl, she was known to bring home ‘lost’ dogs quite often.  Her mother, Erna, would let her feed the dog, but made her return it immediately to where she found it.  Lee very much cherished the family dogs: Buttons, Friskie and Tuffy.

When she was 19, Lee met her future husband, Jimmy George, while he was delivering groceries to her house and married soon after.  Lee eventually went to work for John Nuveen & Co and found great success in their trading department.  She absolutely loved her work.  Lee developed great friendships with co-workers and even vacationed with them.  She took the Arlington Heights NW Train to downtown Chicago for work every day.  Jimmy and Lee were very fond of horses and horse racing and owned a beautiful horse named Diamond Lil.  They were also big into breeding and raising Alaskan Malamutes often entering them into dog shows.  Lee was always very active and enjoyed golf, tennis, ice-skating, boating and logging thousands of miles on her snowmobile ripping around the trails in the North Woods of WI.  Their only child, Mike ‘Mikey’ Ferber, emulated both of his parent’s spirit.  He recently passed away at the age of 70, on September 9, 2021.  Every Sunday morning you could find Lee and Mike at The Bread & Butter Café enjoying breakfast together.

Lee very much enjoyed the adventure of national and international travel.  She spent a large amount of her vacation time on Sanibel Island, her happy place. She always loved a good party.  Lee never missed her BINGO game or late afternoon Martini.  Lee had a strong faith in God.

Lenore Ferber was an amazing woman who touched many people’s hearts. Her gregarious personality, her unwavering spirit and her kindness to all she met will be dearly missed.  Lee is survived by her nieces Wendy (Craig), Heidi (Bruce), Kari (Scott), Amy (Gregg) and her cousin Tom Cowell.
