After facing a number of health challenges, Kandy passed peacefully while surrounded by family. Born and raised in Chicago, Kandy attended William Howard Taft High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University. She married Rich in May of 1971, and together they built a life that began in Chicago and later brought them to the suburbs, where they raised their family. Kandy worked as the school secretary at Charles Quentin and later Sarah Adams Elementary School, where she made lifelong friendships. After retirement, she found her passion training comfort dogs through Lutheran Church Charities. She loved the dogs and everything that went into preparing them to comfort others.
Kandy’s faith was an important part of her life and guided the love and kindness she shared with others. She served as an Awana leader for more than 20 years, helping many children come to know Jesus. She was a member of Heritage Church and also participated in Bible studies, where she enjoyed growing in her faith alongside others. Fun-loving and always ready for a good laugh, Kandy loved bringing people together through games, celebrations, and a little friendly competition. She cherished the many close friendships she formed throughout her life, with her family closest to her heart.
During the summer months, she loved her time at the lake, especially relaxing at the beach or floating in the water. She also loved vacationing anywhere with a palm tree. Above all, Kandy treasured time spent with her grandkids. She attended all of their games and activities and loved her college visits. Baking cookies, playing games, organizing fun challenges for them, and sharing in their stories were just a few of the ways she made their time together special. Her grandkids knew they could tell her anything and always count on her love and support.
Kandy is survived by her children, Chris Keller (Becky) and Brittany Moll (Josh); grandchildren Josh and Vanessa Keller and Jake, Matt, Luke, and Ally Moll; brother-in- law and sister-in-law Ron and Pat Keller. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 50 years, Rich Keller, and her parents, Ollie and Anne (nee Nemeth) Kiewert.
Donations are welcomed, in Kandise’s memory, to the Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry or the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of Kandy’s life will follow the service at the Knights of Columbus, 365 Surryse Rd, Suite 280 (2nd Floor), Lake Zurich. Family, friends, neighbors, and all who knew Kandy are warmly invited and encouraged to join us, even if you are unable to attend the visitation or service. We would love to gather with everyone whose lives she touched to share stories, laughter, and memories. Appetizers will be served, along with plenty of snacks and cookies in true Kandy fashion. A cash bar will also be available.
