Visitation for Juan M. Bravo Jr., 55, of Fairlawn, Ohio, since 2002, formerly of Lake Zurich, Illinois, will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Interment will be private.
Juan was born on October 15, 1970, in La Piedad, Michoacán, Mexico and passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2026, in Fairlawn, Ohio. He spent his formative years in Lake Zurich, Illinois, and later built his life in Ohio, where he made his home. He was the eldest of six children and carried that role with quiet strength, responsibility, and deep care for his family. Juan attended the University of Guadalajara and built a life marked by continuous learning and deep compassion.
Juan was a man of quiet intelligence and deep curiosity who moved through life with calm steadiness and an appreciation for the world around him. He found joy in nature, travel, animals, and lifelong learning, and his presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He worked as a chemical engineer and frequently traveled for his career, approaching his work with dedication and pride. While his professional life took him to many places, his greatest sense of peace was found at home, where he deeply valued time with his husband, his family, and his animals. He especially cherished the simple rhythms of home life and the grounding presence of those he loved most.
Juan was preceded in death by several beloved family members, most especially his cherished aunt, Fina Bravo, who held a uniquely important place in his heart and whose love, guidance, and presence remained deeply meaningful throughout his life.
He is survived by his devoted husband, Ben Haslam; his beloved dogs, Red and Blue; his mother, Graciela Bravo Bribiesca; his father, Juan Manuel Bravo; his uncle and second father Avelino Bravo; and his siblings Memo Bravo, Grace Carley (Bravo), Michael Bravo, Kristen Vander Wal (Bravo), Paul Bravo and many nieces and nephews.
Juan will be remembered for his quiet kindness and the steady, grounding presence he brought to others. He had a natural ability to make people feel seen, understood, and at ease.
