It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph M. Janowski, age 87, of Palatine, announces his passing on February 17, 2021.  A Memorial Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Dr., Palatine.  The Interment will be at a later date.

Joseph (Joe) proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War.  He will be missed and fondly remembered for his love of the outdoors, cards and wood working.  One of Joe’s favorite pastimes was fishing.  When the granddaughters were young, Joe and Amy would take the girls fishing on Powers Lake.  All the family has many treasured hand crafted wood items made by Joe ranging from clocks to small pieces of furniture, including cradles for each son when their first child was born.  He also made each granddaughter a miniature cradle and rocking chair for their dolls and their own rocking horse.  Joe enjoyed playing cards and other games, including word and jigsaw puzzles.  He was known for his love of homemade desserts.

Joseph was born on May 7, 1933, in Chicago, IL. Joseph is survived by his wife, Amelia (Amy); his sons, Wayne (Maureen) and Vince; his five granddaughters, Debra (Umesh), Kristen (Dan), Lisa, Allyse, Jennifer; four great grandchildren, Paige, Daniel, Alexander, Jackson; his brother, John (Josephine), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Rose; parents, Michael and Victoria; siblings, Michael, Edward and Katherine; and two nephews, Michael and Alex.
