Howard C. Anderson

A Memorial Service for Howard C. Anderson, 91, of Palatine, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Christ Lutheran Church, 41 S. Rohlwing Road, Palatine, IL. All are welcome to join the family for a reception at Howard’s home immediately after the service, at 137 N. Clark Drive, Palatine, IL.

Howard was born on February 24, 1934, to Howard and Carolyn Anderson at his grandparents’ house in Chicago. He passed away at his home in Palatine on Friday, May 9, 2025.

Howard met his future wife, Barbara Bates, in history class at Taft High School in Chicago. He graduated from high school in January 1952. He received a scholarship to Northwestern University and earned an accounting degree in 1955. Howard married his high school sweetheart Barbara, on June 11, 1955.

After college, Howard was employed by Illinois Bell, holding various positions for over thirty years. He spent three of those years in New York City. During the last 20 years at Illinois Bell/Ameritech he ran the district level tax office. After retirement from Illinois Bell, he worked with a small company as their Chief Financial Officer for several years.

Later in life, Howard enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. All were entertained by his quick wit. Christ Lutheran Church and his friends there were important to him. Howard imparted wisdom to all of us in his quiet manner.

Howard was the beloved husband of the late Barbara B. Anderson; loving father of Beth Bowman (Dave Cortney), Laurie Brandstatt, Susie Doucette, and Lois Linnane (Jim); cherished grandfather of Greg (Tessa), Kate (Peter), Thomas (Rachel), Michael, Paul, Alyssa (Adam), Stephanie, Jimmy (Molly), and Lindsey; dear great-grandfather of Lacey, Carter, Julian, Landon, Zoe, Morgan, Asher, Avery Joy, Austin; fond brother of Alan Anderson. His grandsons, Billy Brandstatt and John Doucette, preceded him in death, as did his son-in-law’s, Jeff Bowman and Bill Brandstatt.
