Visitation for Gary P. Vogt, 74, of Streamwood, formerly of Palatine, will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The Visitation will continue Friday, March 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine. Interment will be private.
Gary was born May 5, 1951, in Elmhurst, and passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington.
Gary grew up in Palatine, Illinois, where he built the foundation of the work ethic, grit, and larger-than-life personality that would define him. He graduated with the Class of 1969 from William Fremd High School.
A proud carpenter by trade, Gary dedicated 38 years to Pepper Construction, where he built not only structures but lifelong relationships. He rose through the ranks to finish his career as Director of Field Personnel, a role that reflected the deep respect he earned from those who worked alongside him. He was an active member of the Associated General Contractors of America, supporting and advancing the construction industry he loved. After retiring from Pepper in 2007, Gary continued shaping the next generation of craftsmen as the administrator of the carpenter training school, investing his time and wisdom into those following in his footsteps.
His Pepper family meant the world to him. Seeing his daughter, Shannon, join Pepper marked the fourth generation of Vogts in the trades — a legacy he wore proudly and one he hoped would continue for a fifth.
Gary filled every room with his presence. He never met a stranger, and if you stood still long enough, you were sure to hear one of his unforgettable stories. He was always planning what was coming next — the next trip, the next project, the next gathering — happiest when surrounded by friends, laughter, and perhaps even a free perk if he could find one. He lived more in one lifetime than most ever could.
Gary leaves behind his loving wife, Holly Thompson-Vogt; his daughters Shannon (Rob) Heckman and Taryn Vogt; his brother Alan (Diane) Vogt; his beloved cousins; the mother of his children, Kim Vogt; and the lights of his life — his cherished grandchildren, Jacob and Andrew Heckman; along with many friends that he considered family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to JourneyCare Hospice for the tremendous care they provide to families.
