Elizabeth “Betty” B. Anderson (née Restea), 80, passed away on September 29, 2026, in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Betty was born on February 5, 1946, in Romania. On her third birthday, February 5, 1949, she arrived in the United States with her mother and sister, beginning a new chapter in a life that would always remain deeply connected to her Romanian roots. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois and always held that city in her heart, but very much enjoyed being a resident of Lake Zurich, Illinois for most of her adult life. Throughout her life, Betty delighted in sharing and celebrating her Romanian heritage with family, lifelong friends, and new friends alike.
Betty was an artist in every sense of the word. A talented artist and textile designer, she saw beauty everywhere and had an extraordinary gift for creating it herself. Her garden became a living canvas—an ever-changing expression of her creativity and love of color, texture, and nature. She also loved music and poetry and often composed little songs and poems especially for the people she loved.
Betty shared her life with her beloved husband, Paul H. Anderson, who preceded her in death in 2024. Their marriage was a true creative partnership. Betty could dream up an idea, and Paul—an exceptionally talented master carpenter—would find a way to bring it to life. His craftsmanship filled their home and the homes of those they loved, whether through custom furniture, a helping hand, or the expertise and advice family members knew they could always call upon.
Paul had an artistry all his own, as well as a lifelong passion for horses. He spent years professionally training Quarter Horses, bringing patience, skill, and dedication to the horse world he loved.
Together, Betty and Paul created a home where family was always welcome—and rarely permitted to leave hungry. They loved gathering people around their table, hosting family and friends, and feeding everyone generously, usually far more than anyone could possibly eat. Their home was filled with Betty’s creativity, Paul’s craftsmanship, music, food, conversation, and the people they loved most.
Throughout their years together, Paul lovingly stepped into the role of father to Betty’s two beloved sons, George Mueller and James Mueller, and later became “Papa” to their three grandchildren. Family was at the heart of the life Betty and Paul built together.
Betty and Paul are survived by their sons, George Mueller and James Mueller (Stephanie); their cherished grandchildren, Rory, Kaylee, and Toby; Betty’s sister, Elena (Bob); Paul’s sister, Sheila Twellman; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul; her mother, Stana Moisiu; and her sister, Marietta.
Betty’s Orthodox Christian faith was deeply important to her. She was a devoted and active member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Palatine, where she found spiritual guidance, fellowship, and a church community that meant a great deal to her.
Betty leaves behind a life marked by creativity, faith, heritage, generosity, and an abiding love for her family. She and Paul complemented one another beautifully: Betty imagined; Paul built. Together, they created far more than beautiful things. They created a home and a family life filled with warmth, beauty, laughter, music, good food, faith and love—and that will remain their legacy.
