Visitation for Edith L. Schultz, 80, of Palatine, will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00PM on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy, Palatine. A Funeral Mass will be said on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas of Villanova Parish, 1201 E Anderson Drive, Palatine. Interment is private.
Edith was born in Decatur, IL, to the late William Joseph and Mary Lee Carroll and passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026. She was the dear sister of James Carroll, as well as the late Thomas Carroll, William Carroll, John Carroll, and Mary Ann Belchick.
She was the beloved wife to the late Robert "Dutch" Gerald Schultz; loving mother to Heidi (Jim), Kurt (Michelle), and Brigit (Jeremy); and cherished grandmother to Ethan, Greta, Nathan, Noah, Owen, Abby, and Carson.
Known lovingly as "Edie", she was a registered nurse for nearly 50 years, dedicating most of her life to caring for others. Nursing was far more than a career for Edie—it was a true calling defined by a deep, natural empathy for everyone she met. Warm, approachable, and endlessly generous with her time, she was the trusted "go-to" person whenever family, friends, or neighbors needed medical advice, guidance on symptoms, or reassurance for random health concerns (including the occasional panic of, "Am I dying?"). Her gentle nature and reassuring presence brought peace to countless lives throughout her decades of service.
Beyond her work, Edie had a huge heart and served as a second mother to many. She embraced life with warmth, humor, and simple pleasures. In her free time, she was an avid gardener who loved tending to her plants, a passionate cook who brought people together around the table, a devoted movie buff, a lifelong animal lover, a gifted puzzler, and an insatiable reader who always had a book nearby. She loved to travel and discover new places, creating cherished memories along the way.
Edie’s legacy of compassion, warmth, and boundless care will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
