Long Time Lake Zurich resident (45 years) Doug H. Bartels passed away early Tuesday morning January 9, 2024 at the age of 85.

Doug was honored by the town of Lake Zurich, Lions Club 30years, and the American Legion for 19 years for his many volunteer hours. They included the Alpine fest and the Haunted house. Doug was born in Waterloo Iowa to Audrey and Irvin Bartels. They moved to Illinois when Doug was two years old, where he lived until his death. Amongst his favorite things to do were fishing and entertaining friends at the northern Wisconsin cabin and spending time with family. He graduated from Westminster College in Fulton Missouri. Doug spent 8 years in the National Guard. He worked as a cement finisher, carpenter, and contractor for many years. Hardworking Doug’s Volunteering shows in many many local homes and business. In Doug’s own words “our parents always instilled in us that we leave a place better than we found it, I hope I have done that”.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Jayne (Kruse), mother to his two daughters and his second wife Robin Kraft.

He is survived by his younger brother Jeffrey Bartels (wife Cathi and children Jamie Pontier and Seth Bartels), sister Cindy Kauffman (husband Robert and children Kyle Kaufman and Kate Thompson), his two daughters Lora Garceau (husband Joe Garceau their daughters Lorena and Jayne) and younger daughter Lisa Buck (husband Todd Buck and their children Jericho, Zeke, (Hannah and Eli) As well as several cousins and many many friends.

Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in Lake Zurich on Thursday January 11, 2024 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
