Donald Robert Klein

Visitation for Donald Robert Klein, 91, of Long Grove, formerly of Barrington, Kildeer and Palatine, will be held Monday, November 20, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The Funeral service will begin Tuesday, November 21st, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.

Donald was born November 8, 1932 in Chicago, and he passed away November 15, 2023 in Long Grove. Donald was the beloved husband of the late Rita E. Klein ( Biesterfield); loving father of Karen (Mark) Anstedt and Laura (John) Austwick; loving grandfather of Eric (Kirsten), Shannon, Samantha and Kelsy; great grandfather of Greyson and Emma; dear son of the late William and Florence (nee Fanning) Klein; fond brother of the late Raymond Klein and sister Lorraine (nee Klein) Hopple and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Don attended University of Toledo where he was a member of the basketball team. He married his high school sweetheart, Rita, in September of 54'. In the fall of 55' Don was drafted into the US Army. After his service, Don had a long and successful career with State Farm Insurance. Over the years, he enjoyed and obtained fond memories of many trips with family and friends, weekly rounds of golf with his buddies, and lunches or gatherings with long-time friends, some from as far back as his childhood. He had an incredible recall of names, dates and details of the many people he met and experiences he had throughout his life. But first and foremost, his immediate and extended family were of the most important to him. He was always interested in everyone's well being and his focus was always making sure his family members were okay. He was a loving husband and father who was always available to listen, spend time with over a cup of coffee and offer a bit of sound advice when asked. He was always thinking of others with a heart larger than life. He will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty and dedication to family and friends alike! He will be missed tremendously.
