Donald J. Schwank

Visitation for Donald J. Schwank, 91, of Barrington, will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy. Palatine. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:30 AM also at the funeral home, preceded by a brief visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. After the service, proceeding to Randhill Park Cemetery, Arlington Heights for burial.

Don was born on March 21, 1934, in Barrington, to Carl and Marie Schwank. He passed away on August 23, 2025, in Arlington Heights. Don lived most of his life in Palatine, moving to Barrington in 1978 to a home he designed and built with his wife Frances, who passed away in 1992.

Don worked for over 30 years for Pepper Construction, Barrington as a carpenter/carpenter foreman, retiring in 1996. After retirement, Don enjoyed working on various remodeling projects around his home and tending his garden; his specialty was growing tomatoes, giving homemade tomato juice to family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Frances, siblings Bill Schwank, Sandi Wiggins, Jack Schwank and Jean Roesslein, sister in law Betty Schwank and brother in law Louis Roesslein. He is survived by his daughter Holly Thompson-Vogt ( Gary), brother Charles Schwank (Loretta), sister in law Marilyn Schwank and many nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by step grandchildren Shannon Heckman (Robert), Taryn Vogt and step great- grandchildren Jacob and Andrew Heckman.

Don was a great lover of animals, particularly cats. It was his wish that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the animal shelter/rescue of your choice.
