Dave was a great story teller, an avid White Sox and Packer fan. He coached soccer and baseball, and participated in Indian Princesses and Indian Guides. He was very involved in the Palatine community, and was a Citizens Council past chairman.

He had many hobbies and interests including trains, traveling, lighthouses, American history, reading, politics, recycling, crossword puzzles, Hallmark Christmas movies, dogs, playing cards/games (especially with the grandchildren) airplanes (but not flying), drinking Tab, making pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving, and he loved his sweets, especially baking chocolate cake for his grandchildren and letting them eat it for breakfast.
