Northwest Hwy, Palatine. Prayers will be said at 9:30 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2026, also at the funeral home and process to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 465 N. Benton Street, Palatine, for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. The Interment will be private.
Colleen was born on December 31, 1956, to the late John and Dolores McGivney. She passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Colleen filled her life with the things and people she loved. She was a devoted Cubs fan, loved rowing, rarely went anywhere without a book nearby, and never passed up a chance to see Rod Stewart in concert. Key West held a special place in her heart, and she treasured the many visits she made there over the years.
She spent 30 years working at HP, where coworkers became dear friends, while still holding close friendships that stretched all the way back to high school. That was simply who Colleen was, she loved people deeply, and once you were part of her life, you stayed there.
More than anything, Colleen will be remembered for her extraordinarily kind and gentle heart. She was incredibly warm, sweet, generous, and loving, and made the people around her feel cared for by just being herself. She leaves behind a lifetime of friendships, memories, laughter, and love, and she will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Colleen was the beloved wife of Jim Virginelli for 49 years; loving mother of Peter, and Rachelle; cherished grandmother of Nathan; fond sister of the late John, the late Michael, Mary (Joey), Patti (Mark), and Kevin. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Mike (Stephanie) Virginelli and sister-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Charles. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Colleen, may be made to City of Hope Cancer Center or The American Cancer Society.
