Carol Ann Nero

September 19, 1946 — May 26, 2025

Palatine

A Memorial Visitation for Carol Ann Nero, 78, of Palatine, will be on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy, Palatine. The Interment will be private.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol, after a brave private battle with cancer, on May 26, 2025. Surrounded by her family, she left peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, compassion, and unwavering strength.

Carol was born on September 19, 1946 in Evanston, Illinois to Theodore and Jonalyn Marbet, parents whom she adored.

She shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband of 56 years, Gilbert Charles Nero, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Together, they raised their only son Jonathan who was the pride and joy of her life. Additionally, she was a doting dog mom to Brandy, Cody, Kelsey, and Kylie, their four Brittany Spaniels and she loved her grand dog Harley well!

As the best Nana, she poured her heart into her only twin granddaughters Madison and Peyton, always ready with a hug, a word of encouragement, and bragging rights! Her granddaughters knew her as their greatest Celtic Soccer and Fremd Soccer cheerleader!

Carol was also a cherished sister and aunt, the kind of person whose door was always open, whose table always had room for one more, and whose heart had space for everyone.

As a friend, her greatest joy came for caring for others. Whether through a listening ear, a kind word, or a helping hand, she lived a full life of compassion. Her laughter, stories, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Mom loved her time at Ripon College and transferred to Northern Illinois where she graduated with a BS in Education to be closer to her future husband.

Initially, Mom was a beloved school teacher for four years in District 59, but left to care for her only son. She supported her husband with his business for his entire career. For many years, she crafted with love, unique Christmas Ornaments with her family, enjoyed gardening, and in later life she volunteered regularly at the Senior Center. She loved playing Bridge, Mahjong, and Scrabble with some of her closest friends. Mom also enjoyed many years of travel with her family.

She is survived by her husband Gil, son Jonathan (Michelle), by her granddaughters Madison and Peyton, her sister Jan Kuh (Steve), and many nephews and one niece, and preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Jonalyn Marbet and nephew David Kuh.

In lieu of flowers, Carol kindly requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to continue her compassion toward others.
