Brian Russell Burch, 80, of Lake Zurich, passed away June 23, 2025, after suffering cardiac arrest following a pancreatic cancer diagnosis on May 22, 2025. We will be honoring Brian this Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 25225 W. Ivanhoe Road, Wauconda, IL 60084. Visitation will be held from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m with a Memorial Service at 4:00p.m.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy, his three treasured children, Brian (Jackie), Amy (Greg), and Tim (Brittany), and 6 precious grandchildren, Clair, Mackenzie, Makayla, Cooper, Elijah, and Calyssa.
Born and raised in Illinois, Brian graduated from New Trier High School in 1962 and the University of Illinois in 1967. He faithfully served his country as a First Lieutenant in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army and is a decorated Vietnam Veteran including earning the distinguished Bronze Star.
Brian was a skilled Architect with Burch, Burch, and Burch alongside his father, Edward, and identical twin brother, Bruce. He committed his life to passionately serving others and his community through the Boy Scouts of America reaching the highest honor of Eagle Scout and the Silver Beaver Award. Brian founded the Lake Zurich Explorer Post 2, served on the Lake Zurich Zoning Board, volunteered at Little City, and represented Ela Township as a Trustee. He joyfully sang with the Chicago Swedish Glee Club and the Messiah Lutheran Church choir. Brian was also a proud member of Military Order of the World Wars, a faithful Lake Zurich crossing guard, a noble Lake County Reserve Deputy Sheriff, an honored Lake Zurich Police Marine Officer, and a dedicated volunteer of SLCR CERT, the South Lake County Regional, Community Emergency Response Team.
Brian was at peace following the grave diagnosis, knowing his loving family would proudly be at his side until the Lord called him home to be reunited with his cherished parents, Edward and Mary, and beloved twin brother, Bruce.
