Palatine

Barbara Lee (née Everts) Hagerson, 84, of Palatine, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Northwest Community Hospital after a brief illness. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 11:00 am until the time of the Memorial Service at 12:00 pm at The Orchard Arlington Heights, 1330 N. Douglas Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Lunch will follow immediately after the service at The Orchard. The Interment will be private.

Barbara’s life was shaped by airlines as her beloved father Myron worked in operations for American Airlines. Barbara was born in West Virginia and moved around with her family living in Denver, CO, Flagstaff, AZ, and Phoenix, AZ. Barbara Everts graduated from Phoenix Christian High School in 1957. Barbara attended Bob Jones University for one year. Barbara’s family then moved to Florida where Barbara met her future-husband Donald while attending the community college in Orlando.

Barbara and Donald relocated to the Chicago area as Don was transferred to O’Hare Airport by Eastern Airlines. Chicagoland is where Don and Barb started their family. Mrs. Hagerson resided in Palatine for more than 50 years. She was active at Palatine Bible Church and later at The Orchard. She enjoyed listening to Moody Radio. She was devoted to her family, and she loved to sing.

Mrs. Hagerson was a warm person with a smile for everyone and a warm tone of voice. Barbara loved children and wanted six of them. She later told her daughter that two was the right number as she had two hands and could hold each child’s hand in hers. Barbara was a leader in the AWANA Clubs youth ministry where she got to nurture lots of children.

Barbara was gifted with a sewing machine and used her talents for her family. When Barbara’s children were little, she made them many Halloween costumes including a tiger costume, a pickle costume, and a kangaroo outfit complete with a tiny kangaroo costume for a doll in the larger costume’s pouch.

Mrs. Hagerson studied the Bible and completed her goal of reading it cover to cover in a year several times. She lived in sure and certain hope of the resurrection. Barbara believed strongly in following the literal Word of God. When Barbara worked outside the home, she worked at Cicero Bible Press printing business forms. Mrs. Hagerson was later secretary at Palatine Bible Church for several years where she printed the weekly church bulletin and attended to church business. She was a woman of strong faith.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald; children, John Hagerson of Naperville, IL, and Sandra (Jerry) Steinhauer of Madison, WI; cousin, Jo Ann (née Stevens) Bruno of Nogales, AZ; and nephews, Rick Scott and Jay (Carol) Scott of Oviedo, FL.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Maude Alice (née Dolin) Everts, her younger sister, Beverly Jean Scott of Oviedo, FL, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

The family would like to thank the staff of Northwest Community Hospital for their care of Mrs. Hagerson in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory will be appreciated to Bibles International, the Barnabas Fund of Baptist Mid-Missions, or the charity of your choice.
